Fig. 13-28. This photograph shows the making of a root pass with

backhand technique. It takes a bit more skill to be sure of complete fusion

of the root pass using this technique, and both flame and rod must be

moved in patterns somewhat different than those used in forehand welding,

but some welders find that they can work a little faster, using larger rod.
